Tim Rozon is a Gemini award-winning actor from Montreal, Canada. He’s made appearances in several of our favourite shows, most known for his roles as Mutt Schitt in Schitt’s Creek, Doc Holliday in Wynonna Earp, and Luke Roman in Surreal Estate.
In addition to acting, Tim is using his platform to raise awareness about animal welfare. A supporter of the Animal Welfare Fund by Unite for Change, Tim shared with us the importance of supporting animals. We also discussed how he became an advocate and what people can do to support animal welfare.
All living things have a purpose and their lives should be valued. Animals are no exception. I believe it’s our responsibility to ensure their safety and well-being.
I think my passion also stems from adopting several rescue cats and horses. They have had such a huge impact on me and my family. It’s hard to think about what their lives could have been like if they weren’t adopted. Or even if the shelter didn’t have the resources to keep them alive and safe.
Everyone, including animals, should be cared for, but many are mistreated, abused and abandoned. While some end up in reputable shelters, sanctuaries, and rehabilitation programs, there’s not enough funding and capacity to take care of them all.
Oftentimes, animal welfare is overlooked as an area in urgent need of support. However, no animal deserves to experience cruelty. They can’t advocate for themselves so they need us to stand up in support of their needs.
As a society, I think it is important we take care of one another and I think that includes the care of animals.
There are so many ways you can make a difference in the lives of animals!
If you are looking to get a pet, try fostering first. It is a great way to gauge if that particular pet suits your lifestyle. If you still want a pet after fostering, definitely adopt. Animal shelters are full of loving animals who are already looking for their forever homes.
Another way is by being a conscious shopper. This means only supporting brands that don’t test on animals, and stick to imitation fur and leather. Overall, I think the biggest takeaway here is to do your research first. There are so many great organizations and businesses dedicated to ensuring the well-being of animals worldwide.
Lastly, it’s important to support charities and organizations who make animal welfare their full-time job. I know it can be difficult to choose just one charity, and that’s why the Animal Welfare Fund by Unite for Change is so great. With one donation you’re supporting over 400 Canadian charities dedicated to making the lives of animals better.
Charitable giving has always been something that has been important to me. So when I heard about CanadaHelps’ newest project, Unite for Change I thought it would be really cool to work with them. But it was my own pets and passion for animal welfare that drew me to this fund in particular. Since animal welfare is often a cause that is overlooked, I wanted to lead by example and encourage as many people as possible to offer their support.
I urge everyone to support the Unite for Change Animal Welfare Fund. Your donation will go towards shelters, sanctuaries, and rehabilitation services. You’ll literally be saving the lives of countless animals.
