33 MILLION LIVES AFFECTED BY UNPRECEDENTED FLOODING
Since June, heavy rain has caused unprecedented levels of flooding and has been described as a “monsoon on steroids” and an “unprecedented climate catastrophe” by the United Nations. Extreme flooding has left those affected in need of basic necessities such as shelter, clean water, and health services. The situation on the ground is dire:
• More than 1,508 people have died due to flooding.
• An estimated one million homes have been destroyed or heavily damaged in the area.
• Approximately 600,000 Pakistanis are currently displaced in camps after fleeing their homes.
• Some areas have experienced three to six times higher rainfall.
SAVE LIVES FOLLOWING PAKISTAN’S MONSOON SEASON
Urgent humanitarian aid is being rushed to areas hit hardest by flash floods. Emergency aid kits and tools like household water purification units, hygiene items, solar lights, food, shelter, buckets, kitchen equipment, and more are being delivered to those affected. An emergency plan has been launched by the United Nations to help the most vulnerable in the wake of the disaster.
